Emotional Competence and Capacity Building

Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies is an institution that operates on the motto of ‘nation-building’ through ‘character building’ of their students and turning them into efficient professionals. The institution understands that the first step towards this development is by understanding the need and requirements of the student’s well-being and emotional competence. While keeping this in mind, Vivekananda School of Journalism and Mass Communication took the initiative of conducting a psychometric assessment and workshop with all the three semester students of BA(JMC) in February, 2019.

This assessment was conducted in association with AIM2EXCEL, an organization with psychologists and academicians from U C Berkeley, NYU, JNU, IITs, and NID. The activity addressed the unique needs of the 21st-century students by addressing the 4Ds of (Future) Direction, Discipline (to Learning), Distraction and Demotivation. To achieve this, a psychometric assessment was planned to offer standardized performance-based assessment for Emotional Intelligence, Social Intelligence, and Learning styles at no cost. With online access, each student received a PDF copy of the 38-page personalized report to their email accounts along with the summary report for each batch to the college for taking desired actions.

The report was further followed by a 2-hour workshop under the supervision of Professor Naveen Kumar, Associate Professor, Department of Psychology, Delhi University; along with the accompanying faculty Dr. Garima Srivastava, Assistant Professor, Aryabhatta College. It focused on building emotional competence, developing personality and self-awareness.
